Beautiful  Loving  Spirited  Joyful

Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers since 2004

About Us

Our name AnamCara has the meaning "Soul Mate" in old Gaelic

I've loved, shown, trained and bred dogs since I was in elementary school, but in 2004, I met the breed that would change my life and love of dogs forever.  The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.  AnamCara, named in honor of my first Wheaten "Cara" is located on Reality Mountain in Little Washington, Virginia.  Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains we are about 90 minutes outside of Washington, DC.

Is the Wheaten Terrier right for you?

The Wheaten retains his puppy antics and medium-to-high energy level all his life and is a high-maintenance breed. You must commit to frequent grooming to keep their beautiful coat clean and free of mats. The Wheaten is a non-shedding breed with a personality that can make them a challenge to train.

We know you want a puppy...

But, we expect you to do your homework first.  Keeping a Wheaten Terrier is an expensive proposition between quality food, veterinary care, grooming and training.  Please refer to the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of America (SCWTCA) website for detailed information on our breed.

About Wheaten Terriers

Wheaten Health

AnamCara is careful in selecting our bloodlines for health and temperament.  Any breeder should be willing to show you the results of their breeding stock's extensive health testing.  If they are not, you should be very skeptical.

Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers are stable and fun-loving and are adaptable to country and city living. They were originally bred to be all-purpose farm dogs. They relate well to children and make good watch-dogs. They are animated, inquisitive, cheerful dogs who love their people.  However, bad breeding can lead to bad temperaments. Meet your breeder's dogs!

Show and Pet Homes

AnamCara Dogs have fantastic lineage and have been proven with conformation championships.  But, the most important thing they do, is make loving family pets.  Wheatens are a hearty breed and make great running partners!  Many have great success with other dog sports like rally, agility and barn hunt.
